I found out about the Halo headband on KK's cool tool blog. These headbands are great for keeping the sweat out of your eyes. That's what they do. I use mine for jogging and cutting the grass. I used to constantly wipe my eyes with my shirt - now I don't. my eyes would burn from sweat - now they don't. That's what the Halo does. They make a tie-on version and a standard pullover version. I prefer the tie on version after trying both, but that's just me. They are great for tennis, hiking, or any other sweaty endeavor.

Body-Solid® Bench (GFID71) Review

Build quality is great, it is very sturdy and heavy. One thing that I do not like about the design is the 5" gap between the benches. I have used other incline benches where the gap was much smaller. I would give this a 5 but the assembly instructions were terrible. First there were no instructions, just an exploded view of the assembled bench. Next, the exploded view and index of parts called out the hardware in Inch measurements but the hardware was packaged and labeled with metric measurements. Lastly, the instructions did not match the pieces that were included (there were more pieces than shown in the picture) so I had to take two sections of the bench apart after I was done to install pieces that I had left off. Overall, it was not that hard to assemble but it could have been much easier if the manufacturer had spent a little more time making some instructions that matched the hardware. I still think that this is the best bench available for the money.

I am very happy with the construction of this bench. It is really solid as in Body Solid. However if your not handy its gonna take some time to put together especially with no instructions. There is a picture that is somewhat helpful.. The only problem i see with this bench is when i do decline bench presses.. When i saw the pads to hold the legs i thought you can slide all the way down to get the full effect of lower chest.. It turns out not to be the case you can slide down about three quaters the way which i guess isnt the worse thing but overall am pretty happy with bench

This is a great bench for working out at home. The gap that others have mentioned in their reviews is something that most incline/decline type benches have. As you raise the surface to incline the bench, the gap lessens until it disappears when you have the bench inclined all the way. When using the bench in the flat position, a rolled up towel works fine to fill in the gap if it bothers you. The construction is superb. This bench will last me my lifetime. I had absolutely no problem figuring out how to put the parts together with just the "expanded parts" view to follow. I recommend this bench to anyone who wants a high quality, sturdy workout bench.

Once we got the bike together we liked it, but getting it assembled was a nightmare. My husband and I are both educated people, but these directions (loosely translated by the Chinese) are HORRIBLE. There are diagrams, but they barely look like the parts you have in front of you so are basically useless. The worst part is there are no instructions on how to install the tensioner. They totally omitted that part from the instructions. We are in the process of contacting the company about this serious issue; as the bike sits now you can only pedal at one speed and are unable to adjust the tension. I certainly don't expect this when I spend the money I did (over 0) on a piece of equipment. Another negative is the digital control panel. It's about as low budget as they come; looks impressive, but is all but useless except for the clock. Overall, - very, very dissatisfied with the instructions and certain components, but the bike is nice and sturdy (its ONLY saving grace). If we can get the tensioner issue straightened out I'll return to this review, revise it, and give the bike 4 stars.....but even as I'm writing this I'm thinking "we shouldn't have to go through all this trouble when we spent that kind of money"....
UPDATE: We contacted the LifeSpan dealer regarding the instruction issue. They were very helpful & responded to us quickly. One of the reps talked us through the missing part of the instructions and the tensioner is now installed correctly. The rep stated they are trying to get the instructions updated because they know they are terrible. Hopefully that happens soon. Anyhow, I'm very satisfied with the customer service and have revised my review to give the bike four stars.

Sturdy bike! - Chitra -
We bought this bike about a month ago. The delivery was early and in good condition. The bike was a little heavy but I had the delivery person put the box where we wanted to set it up. Assembly was a 4 step process - some assembly instructions were shown in the picture but not written out - but were moderately easy to figure out. I think having the written instructions would have taken out the guess work. The bike is very sturdy and we use it all the time. The display is very simple but has all the needed parameters.

I received the bike today and was pleasantly surprised by the quality! The fit and finish is absolutely fantastic! It took me about 25 minutes to assemble. I took my time, so it could take less to assemble. Nearly everything is pre-assembled except for the footing and the peddles. Most things just needed tightening down. It came with all the tools you will need except for a screw driver. It appears that they use standard bike components, so upgrades or repairs shouldn't be a concern. I was a bit hesitant to buy this product since I couldn't find any reviews, but I am glad I did. It rides well for a stationary bike. It is relatively quiet. The only down side to the bike but I think it is the same with any other bike is, I wish changing the seat height was a bit quicker. My wife is 5'3" and I am 6'4", so it is going to be a pain switching back and forth.

Body-Solid® Bench (GFID31) Review

The bench came from Bayou fitness and I was delighted with the speed of delivery. It only took three or four days from Louisianna to NY and they shipped the next day. The bench was in very good condition when received. I took my time assembling it and it went together easily, only referred to the sketchy directions twice, after all it is a bench. Not too taxing.

This bench is solid! No wiggles, or shakes, and it can support more weight than I am able to lift, but then I'm an old guy. Some have mentioned the gap between the seat and backrest in the flat and full decline position. I have not found it to be a problem. I have never felt it. Just in case, I had some extra foam to fit in there, but haven't needed it. The only knock I would have is that it is a little tall for my squat rack in the decline position, but it's really a nit.

This is my second piece of Body Solid equipment, I have their cable crossover. I also have a Powerline ab bench (made by body Solid). I am very happy with their equipment and would definitely buy again.

Good for low-load lifting - Honkeywrench -
This is a decent product for low-load lifting. The manufacturer's claims regarding the frame load capacity (1000 lbs.) seem misleading. The weak points are small, metal tubes where the back support attaches to the support post and where the support post attaches to the body, as well as the frame welds. Solid metal pins would increase my confidence in the product.

Compatibility: This bench works with the Valor BD-6, although only with the safety catches fully extended (bench is taller to support leg developers). I think it would also be fine with any standard squat cage, although, due to downsizing, I'm replacing my squat cage with the Valor.

If I could do things over again, I would probably look for something a little more study, although I might still get this product based on the price.

Pros: Decent for low-load lifting, expandability (e.g., leg developer), fits in most racks/cages, reasonable price

Cons: Fragile design, a bit high to work with some BP safety catches

Very good product but has some flaws. Mainly the fact that when using attachments the other side of the bench will get off the ground so you have to weigh it down with some extra plates before using attachments. If you have space look into GFID71 - from what i heard that one doesn't have this issue. Otherwise, if you are tight on space, this bench will do just fine if you're willing to deal with this problem.

I got great service buying this bench through Amazon. All expectations were greatly exceeded. The bench was easy to assemble, but the instructions could have been better. If you are good with figuring things out on your own, you won't have a problem. For those who need 1-2-3 instructions, maybe a little more complex. But this is a quality product. My only minor complaint is one of design. I wish that it had MORE available positions. You get a generic incline and decline each at a preset level. For heavy lifters incline and decline arent that special, but for the bodybuilder this could be improved on. Also, It would be nice if the seat-back could come to a full 90 degree postion for supported seated lifts. As it is, you can certainly sit erect, but with no back support. The frustrating thing here is that there appears to be a "groove" that would all a 90 degree position, but the seat and back cushion are so close that it will not allow it. Other than that, I am enjoying this product along with the power rack and new 7 foot barbell!

I purchased this leg press at Bayou Fitness several months ago for 0. The leg press arrived in 5 days and came in 5 or 6 boxes. Fortunately, the delivery guy brought the boxes into my house. Most of the assembly process was fairly easy, but one section was very difficult for me because I'm a 120 lb, short female and I had no help. First I separated the small parts, such as screws and washers into small plastic snack or sandwich bags, and labeled them with their assigned numbers. That helped quite a bit during the process. I found the instructions confusing because there are only diagrams, no actual instructions or words. In some cases, I put parts together in the wrong order and had to take them apart and put them back together later. If they would number the diagram to at least show which sections on the page should go together first, it would help. For anyone putting it together, study the diagram for a while to decide which sections must go together first....because it's not obvious right away. The section containing the footplate was by far the most difficult to put together because the foot plate is heavy (which is a good thing) and you have to lift both leg sections and the foot plate at the same time, while bolting into the standing section. Had I been taller and stronger, I probably wouldn't have struggled as much. I used a chair to hold up the footplate while bolting the other sections, but it was very tricky. Once I assembled the leg press, it worked well. I've used it several times a week for the past 5 months and am happy with it. I love the small footprint. It's effective as a leg press, hack squat and calf press. Modifying the machine to change exercises is quick and easy. I've found it doesn't work quite as well as the larger, commercial machines in the gym, but it works well for the price.

Bayou fitness - product was delivered in less than 7days via UPS. The UPS guy was a gym rat and was more than glad to helpme lug the boxes into my workout gym/room. This is my second large order from Bayou fitness in the past 3 years and so far no problem with them. I will come back to Bayou fitness because they seem to always have the best price, free shipping & no taxes. Also good quality equipment. Just wish they carried more/different companies.

BodySolid - leg press/hack squat machine. Took less than 6 hours for me and wifey to uncrate, organize, assemble & cleanup. The package was short some nuts and screws. We ended going to Home Depot rather make this a big issue w/BodySolid. This is our second large piece of equipment and BodySolid ultimately backups their 100% warranty for broken equipment is why I purchased the latest unit from them. The unit works very well so far. I'm pressing eight 45's and like the smoothness and stability. I'm 6'5 and my wife is 5'7" and so the unit is height friendly. The pull pin is in a weird spot but we work with it making adjustments to it under the foot pad. The footprint is much smaller than what you will find in most gyms yet it doesn't want for quality. Overall my wife and I are pleased with the overall performance. The hack squat and calf press works as advertised. Hack squats are smooth and effortless. We hesitate to give the unit 5STARS because (1) we haven't had the unit very long, (2) it lacked minor but necessary pieces and (3) the cushions could have been better quality.

For one thing I fail to see how someone could rate one of any upright if they've only had it for a week-unless there was a drastic complaint. The real question and the one that the buyer needs to know is :How will this bike hold up after a couple of months of near everyday use. And I've found that these lower priced ones just don't cut the mustard,before you now it the resistance is gone due to belt stretching and heat(metal fatigue). Before you know it you're just "spinning and not reaping"that is any real benefits.True,you can on your own, take the covers off and tighten the rubber belt according to the manual,BUT,once the belt is stretched,you're already into the "law of diminishing return".In other word you'll be retightening often so after the first "fix",for your own good leave the covers off.
So for the money,would you be better off joining a health club and wearing out their machines which they have a service contract on anyway.With the price of gas and the poor selection of TV programs at the local gym this is definitely a consideration.(Not to mention some of the "critters" at the club(myself being most guilty), but there is always someone at least a person can have some basic communication with). Should you buy a service contract?(More bucks maybe better to invest in a comercial grade from the start)?These new type macines are whisper quiet so you can actually watch your favorite movie or tv show without continually asking,What did they say"?.By the way the heart rate monitors are rarely if ever correct on the lower end machines,the monitor will show you as either in deep REM or so high you're about to have a heart attack.However if you're pinched for cash it would be great until you can save up for a better recumbent bike or a person would do fine with only 2 or 3 days per week use.But when that belt starts slipping(notice I didn't say "if"!),I hope you don't spill your sports drink all over your outfit.By the way you buy it and once it's out the door it's yours so don't expect any customer relations type follow up,not for 119.00 and maybe not for an upright considerably more.
I'm speaking from experience,and I also know of another heavy user type person who is on their third Weslo in 2 years due a cash flow problem.In short a quick fix in placating an "excercise demon"but eventually you'll wish you had the cash for a better machine!But for an occasional user this machine would do just fine.Also watch out for the price on this machine it goes from 179.00 to 119.00 and I've seen it far lower on floor demo models.It's also been restamped and relabeled for marketing but the same basic machine hasn't changed(except in price) for 2 years at least and possibly longer.

Schwinn Active 10 Series Upright Exercise Bike Review

The Active 10 series upright bike is quite nice. It looks great, is surprisingly quiet, was fairly easy to assemble, and is helping me get exercise! Unfortunately, it has several flaws. First, the seat that ships with this bike is as hard as a rock. I bought the Schwinn pillow top seat to replace it, and found that it too is quite hard. I don't understand why bike seats have to be so uncomfortable. Second, the computer interface isn't very intuitive. I'm a computer scientist, and I still can't figure out how to get it to remember my time goals between sessions, without also remembering the total distance and calories I obtained from the previous session. Why should a new session start counting from the final distance and calories from before? Makes no sense to me! Third, there's no way to manually turn off the computer; you simply have to let the thing turn itself off after four minutes. Seeing as the computer is battery powered (four C-cell batteries, which aren't the easiest type to find), this misfeature wastes a little battery life each session.

These flaws are annoying, but the bike is helping me get exercise, so it gets points for trying.

The bike shipped promptly, was easily assembled by my husband in about 30 minutes, and is everything the other reviewers says it is. It is SILENT, even when I'm biking fast (well - fast for me is 20 miles an hour). It is built well and seems very solid, although you can move it around a room pretty easily. It does not wiggle or bounce you, which makes it nice for reading. It is also nice that the controls do not block your view to the television. The calorie counter is not accurate. It shows the same number burned in my first 30 minutes at 20 miles per hour, as it does for my second 30 minutes at 15 miles per hour. I still gave it 5 stars though, because without knowing your weight and body fat percentage, no machine will accurately tell you the calories burned. I got rid of an elliptical trainer to buy this, because in order to go fast enough to get a good cardio workout on the elliptical I had lots of hip joint and knee pain - not so initially, but my body adjusted and I just couldn't work up a sweat even on the highest tension without the joint pain. I am getting a great workout on this bike, set at a level 2 difficulty, with no joint pain. Because there are 8 levels, I will have no problem continuing to challenge myself without having to just go faster.

I bought this bike in February in preparation for knee surgery. It was extremely easy to put together - I had it together in one hour and I am a woman. It comes with all of the tools you will need. The display is nice and large and easy to understand without the manual. I used it to recover from knee surgery and now I ride it almost every morning for 30 minutes and I can really tell the difference in my legs and in my weight in general. I mostly wanted to express how easy it was to assemble and operate. I have had no trouble with it at all. I love this bike.

It’s always interesting to know how things work. With bicycles, knowing how they work can help you when it comes time to fix yours. The workings of all bicycles are basically the same. What differ are the materials used to build the parts.

1. Frame. This is the main component of a bicycle. It is the frame that all of the other parts join to in order to complete the bike. The frame is one piece construction and is tubular not solid. As you learn about other parts you’ll see why this is so.

2. Handlebars. It used to be that all handlebars looked like ram horns. You placed your hands on the top to rest your back and the bottom of the curl to go faster because you were more aerodynamic in that position. The handlebars fit into the front part of the frame called the head tube.

3. Bicycle seat. Seats come in all shapes and sizes for a bicycle. The most common shape looks like a banana with hips. The bicycle seat is mounted on a tubular stem that fits inside the bike frame through the seat tube. Bicycles may or may not have a top tube connecting the seat tube to the head tube. It used to be that girl’s bikes didn’t have this bar to prevent injuries.

4. Wheels. A bicycle has two wheels of varying diameter depending on the type of bike it is. The rear wheel is attached to the bike frame by the chain stay. The front wheel is attached to the frame with a fork attachment that slips into the bottom of the head tube. Some bikes have the fork welded to the frame as a single piece. The wheel itself is a circular metal frame that maintains its shape with spokes that attach to a central hub. The wheel is covered with a rubber tire and an inner tube inside it.

5. Pedals. How else are you going to make your bike move? The pedals attach at the bottom bracket. The pedals and wheels are connected to each other through gears and a series of chains. Pedals are wide enough for a foot and usually contain grooves to grip the shoe of the wearer. Some bicycles have pedal clips to keep feet from slipping as you ride.

6. Cables. The cables run along the bike frame from the handlebars to the brakes and the gears. The cables are usually attached to the frame to avoid accidents. With the handlebars, you can stop your bike and change gears because of this network of cables.

That’s your bike in a nutshell. It is a simple piece of machinery that provides an efficient form of transportation.
